Learning Models Currently, students in all grades are in a face-to-face learning model at WEM. Updated 2/19/21 WEM's Coronavirus Response Plan for 2020-2021 Following Minnesota’s Safe Learning Plan, school districts and charter schools began the 2020-21 school year in one of three models: in-person learning, hybrid learning, or distance learning. On August 31, the WEM school board approved a learning model for the start of the 2020-2021 school year. Kindergarten through grade 6 were brought back in the school buildings full time. Grades 7 through 12 did a hybrid model with both in-person and distance learning. Read the WEM Safe Return to School Plan 2020-2021 for details, including scenario descriptions, fall entrance conferences, and plans for transportation, sanitation/safety, food service, mental health, health/safety, School Age Care (SAC), and MSHSL sponsored activities. Conferences were held the week of September 8-11. Our first official day of school with students was Monday, September 14, 2020. See the WEM 2020-21 Academic Calendar for more information. Parents are encouraged to check their email messages often as details and developments will be forthcoming. WEM Academy is a distance-learning-only option for families who are uncomfortable sending their students to school at this time. We would ask for a commitment by the quarter. As WEM continues to review, refine, and implement guidance from Minnesota Department of Health, Minnesota Department of Education, and work with our local school board, the plan we have created is subject to change. Changes will reflect the guidance provided and state/local decisions. The health, safety, security, and educational well-being is our number one priority.
