The Minnesota School Boards Association (MSBA) has been retained by the Waterville-Elysian-Morristown School Board to assist with the district’s superintendent search. As part of the process, on October 28, MSBA hosted an online Question and Answer (Q&A) session to ensure all district stakeholders have access to accurate information regarding search processes and expectations.

The application deadline was January 3, 2022.
On the evening of January 19, the WEM school board selected four finalists to interview for the school district’s superintendent position. The finalists were:
- Kevin Babcock, High School Principal, Medford, MN
- Nathaniel Boyer, Intermediate School Principal, Becker, MN
- Ryan Jensen, 6-12 Principal, Walker, MN
- Jeff Wilson, Elementary Principal, Brooklyn Center, MN
The finalists were selected from a pool of applicants based on criteria established by the school board.
On the evening of January 26, the WEM school board selected three finalists to interview a second time for the school district’s superintendent position. The finalists were:
- Kevin Babcock, High School Principal, Medford, MN
- Nathaniel Boyer, Intermediate School Principal, Becker, MN
- Ryan Jensen, 6-12 Principal, Walker, MN
At a special board meeting on January 31, 2022, the Waterville-Elysian-Morristown School Board voted to offer Ryan Jensen the position as the district’s next superintendent. “We believe Ryan has the qualifications and skills needed to lead Waterville-Elysian-Morristown Public Schools. We feel he will come into the position with an open mind, ready to listen, and committed to moving the district forward,” said Gary Michael, Board Chair. “We look forward to working with him.”
The School Board will be conducting contract negotiations with Jensen, and a contract is expected to be approved by the school board at a February 10, 2022, regular school board meeting. The pending start date for the new Superintendent will be July 1, 2022.
