ENROLLMENT

WHY ENROLL AT WEM?

  • WEM has a vast assortment of athletic, fine arts, and academic offerings for our student body as well as cooperative agreements with neighboring districts.
  • WEM has College NOW and Advanced Placement (AP) course offerings as well as Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) program.
  • WEM School District was recognized as a 2022 Sustaining Exemplar PBIS District by the Minnesota Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) State Leadership Team. Morristown Junior High and Waterville Elementary were also recognized individually as PBIS Exemplar schools.
  • The facilities of WEM underwent extensive construction and remodeling improvement projects during 2019-2021.

Why Choose WEM (1)

OPEN ENROLLMENT

In accordance with Chapter 124D, Section 124D.03 Enrollment Options Program under Minnesota Statutes, open enrollment allows Minnesota families to enroll their children in a public school district of their choosing regardless of residential address. The law was enacted in 1988 for the 1989-90 school year in an effort to close the achievement gap. Waterville-Elysian-Morristown is an Achievement and Integration District (under Subd. 4), so the January 15th enrollment deadline is not applicable. Students can open enroll into WEM at any time.

Counseling

The goal of WEM’s School Counseling Program is to meet the needs of all students, personally and academically, in an empathetic, proactive, accessible, and professional manner. We believe that a comprehensive counseling and guidance program is an essential part of education for all students, at all levels. These programs facilitate student development in educational, career, and social/personal domains. Our program helps promote responsible, productive citizenship and lifelong learning.

School Counselors work with students to acquire guidance competencies that form the foundation for the next educational and occupational levels as well as address personal, social, and mental health concerns. They assist students to develop realistic educational, life and career plans based on a clear understanding of themselves, their needs, interests, and skills.

Meetings

Meetings will take place in the board room at the high school in Waterville at 5:00 p.m. on the fourth Monday of the month unless it is a holiday. Then they will be on the third Monday of the month. This coincides with the school board meetings, which start at 6:00 p.m. During the pandemic, the meetings will also be held on Zoom. For the link each month, check the WEM calendar and/or the WEM PIE Facebook page.

As of October 2020, we need to create bylaws, and we are looking for people to fill our leadership positions of President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer as well as general members to help support the PIE organization. New officers will be appointed to permit the organization to function effectively.
